Ithaca Residence

Located on fourteen undeveloped acres of dense forest in central New York, a small house for a single person is carefully positioned in the landscape to take advantage of views and sunlight. The client was very exacting in his requirements, calling for an extremely functional house with a minimum of expression. Terminated by the garage at one end and an outdoor terrace at the other, the house is organized as a long rectangular bar. The spaces are deployed within an open plan arrangement using cabinetry and bathroom cores to define separation. Uninterrupted glazing along the length of both sides enables an intimate relationship between the stability of the domestic environment and a constantly changing nature outside of it.
